MegaFood’s MegaFlora probiotic supplement has been on the market for a number of years and it’s received numerous reviews online, some positive and some negative.
MegaFlora Probiotic Full Review & Opinion
Even though I already have my preferred probiotic that works wonders for me, I decided to test this one out, just out of curiosity as it always pays to have an open mind and try new things plus it’s one of the best dairy free probiotics.
Here’s my full review and experience after 4 weeks on the MegaFlora probiotic.
MegaFlora Probiotic Ingredients
The MegaFlora probiotic by MegaFood contains 20 billion CFUs (healthy bacteria) coming from 14 different probiotic strains, unfortunately there’s no prebiotic included, which is a bummer, since I’m a big fan of those, because according to research, prebiotics increase the potency of probiotics.
Here’s a full list of probiotic strains in MegaFlora probiotic:
- Bifidobacterium lactis,
- Lactobacillus acidophilus,
- Lactobacillus casei,
- Lactobacillus plantarum,
- Lactobacillus rhamnosus,
- Lactobacillus salivarius,
- Lactobacillus brevis,
- Lactobacillus bulgaricus,
- Lactobacillus gasseri,
- Lactococcus lactis,
- Bifidobacterium longum,
- Bifidobacterium bifidum,
- Bifidobacterium infantis,
- Streptococcus thermophilus
As always let me pick 3 probiotic strains from the list above and mention why I like them.
Lactococcus lactis is one of the original probiotic strains to be ever used for improving gut health, its positive effects range from prevention and reduction in intestinal inflammation, as well as reversing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Lactobacillus acidophilus is my second favorite, because it’s a bacterium that’s naturally found in our gut, intestines and vagina. According to research, this strain helps with numerous skin problems, lactose intolerance, yeast infections and IBS symptoms.
Finally, one more strain that I want to talk about is Lactobacillus casei and unfortunately this is one of the strains I absolutely hate seeing in probiotics, the reason is because it’s super aggressive at detoxifying the body and in most cases actually does more harm than good, as it also detoxifies the healthy bacteria.
Overall it’s a one of the best probiotics after antibiotics.
Recommended daily dosage for MegaFood Probiotic

MegaFood MegaFlora Probiotic Benefits
I’m writing this section on day 30, I consumed my last capsule 2 hours ago.
Overall, my experience with the probiotic has been quite positive. I didn’t notice any digestive distress, in fact my digestion has remained quite stable – no bloating, diarrhea or gas – quite a solid experience overall.
However I did start noticing after week 1 that my mind is not as clear as it normally is when supplementing with my regular probiotic, I also noticed a drop in energy.
In the afternoon I get quite sluggish, which IS NOT the case when I’m taking my prefered probiotic.
I’m a bit disappointed in that regard.
MegaFlora Probiotic Side Effects and Allergens
In terms of side effects, I didn’t experience any major side effects other than my mind getting cloudy after the first week, but I think that’s not really a side effect, but more of a problem in terms of how effective this probiotic is.
Regarding allergens, there are a few other ingredients included in the probiotic: Cellulose, L-Leucine and Silica, but apart from that according to the company the capsules are 100% gluten, dairy and GMO free.
One thing that I was also disappointed about is the fact that these capsules REQUIRE constant refrigeration to maintain their potency, which is a big drawback, as I can guarantee they weren’t refrigerated during transport.

MegaFood MegaFlora Probiotic Review
My experience with the MegaFlora probiotic after 4 weeks of using it has been overall positive, my digestion was ok (a bit worse than on my usual probiotic), but still quite solid.
However, there were a few aspects and areas, where I was definitely quite disappointed with this probiotic, these areas include the fact that I experienced lack of energy and a cloudy mind, when taking these.
I also DO NOT LIKE the fact that I always had to store these in the fridge – shelf stable probiotics is a must for me, otherwise who knows how much actual CFU you’re getting.
In my opinion, there are many better probiotic options out there, thus I’d recommend that you turn elsewhere to get the maximum from your budget and experience the best health improvements.
