Diverticulitis is a terrible condition that affects many Americans every single year, my mother struggled with it for quite a few years and finally got better just a little over a year ago.
Diverticulitis is quite an interesting word, so let me first explain what the condition actually is. Diverticulitis according to Google, is inflammation of a diverticulum (mainly in the colon), which causes pain and disturbance in bowel movements.
When my mom first approached me regarding her condition and asked me to help her find a solution, after her doctor sent her home and prescribed her antibiotics (maybe the very thing that caused this condition).
After a few months of research and a few probiotics later, we finally found one that worked for her, after 6 weeks of taking it, she felt 100% better.
The probiotic that helped reverse her diverticulitis is…
Best Diverticulitis Probiotics Reviewed and Tested
One of the main reasons why my mom and I believe this probiotic dramatically helped her is because of the high dosage, as each capsule contains 60 billion CFU (healthy bacteria).
The 60 Billion CFUs come from 10 different probiotics including:
- L. casei,
- L. acidophilus,
- L. paracasei,
- L. salivarius,
- L. plantarum,
- L. bulgaricus,
- B. lactis,
- B. bifidum,
- B. longum,
- B. breve
With the Physician’s Choice there’s also an organic prebiotic, two of them actually, one comes from organic Jerusalem artichoke root and the other from chicory root powder.
Prebiotics are a great addition to probiotics, because they dramatically increase the absorption rate of them – in other words, you’ll experience many more benefits from probiotics with a prebiotic than from a probiotic without them.
There’s also the delayed-release form capsule, which is worth mentioning, as it’ll ensure that the probiotics make it down to your gut and stay alive without your stomach acid destroying them – this is a big plus.
This next probiotic is also a great choice, it’s produced by one of my favorite brands, Garden of Life and it’s very unique because it contains a blend of solely soil-based probiotics – which ensures that this probiotic is 100% organic.
With over 15 billion CFUs per capsule, coming from 13 different probiotic strains, this probiotic is a great choice.
The third probiotic on the list for the best probiotics for diverticulitis is the Hyperbiotics Pro-15, the reason I chose this one is because it has a patented delivery method, which ensures a dramatically higher count of probiotics actually making it down to your gut.
The probiotic capsule itself contains 5 billion CFUs, coming from 15 probiotic strains.
The probiotic is also 100% dairy, gluten and soy free and is certified vegetarian.
In addition, this probiotic is also a great choice for anyone looking to shed off those extra few pounds, as the strains included are highly effective at boosting the metabolic rate. Click here to read the full review.
Renew Life’s Ultimate Flora Probiotic is extremely popular due to many reasons, first off it’s quite affordable and about 10% cheaper than most probiotics, while at the same time maintaining its efficiency.
The Ultimate Flora Probiotic contains 60 capsules per bottle, each capsule contains about 50 billion CFUs or healthy bacteria, coming from 12 different probiotic strains.
The instructions say to only consume a single capsule per day with a bit of water, ideally before a big meal, another benefit of the probiotic is that it’s also shelf-stable and doesn’t need to be refrigerated, which also goes for all the other probiotics on this list.

Finally, we have Nutrition Essentials probiotic and before I give you more information about this probiotic let me just mention that for the most part you should avoid this probiotic unless you’re on an extremely tight budget.
Don’t get me wrong, you’ll probably still experience some benefits from taking this probiotic, but they certainly won’t be the benefits you’ll see from probiotics like Physician’s Choice, as it’s simply much more effective.
The reason for that is that while the probiotic does contain 30 billion CFUs, unfortunately, they only come from a single probiotic strain, which is not the best way to go about things.
The reason is that often a mix of strains works a lot better, as it can heal the gut in numerous ways and thus also improve the chances of reversing and curing diverticulitis. For more information click here.
