5 BEST Probiotics for Diabetes

Diabetes is a terrible disease, which many of us have to fight. Chances are high that if you aren’t directly impacted by it, there’s a high chance that someone you know is. In my case that is my dad, who’s been fighting diabetes for years now and this post is a collaboration with him.

Over the years my dad has tried numerous probiotics, but these 5 according to him work the best and are his absolute favorite, let’s see why.

Top Probiotic for Diabetes Reviews

1. Physician’s Choice 60 Billion Probiotic

best probiotic for diabetes

The first and the best probiotic according to my dad is the Physician’s Choice 60 billion CFU probiotic.

In fact, that’s the exact reason why I like it so much because it’s for kids, it’s very very gentle on the gut and it makes me feel absolutely amazing. It also comes in the form of a powder, which you can mix into any drink, so it’s really easy to consume.

Let’s first take a look at the probiotic blend and the 10 strains from which the high CFU count comes:

  • L. Casei
  • L. Acidophilus
  • L. Paracasei
  • L. Salivarius
  • L. Plantarum
  • L. Bulgaricus
  • B. Lactis
  • B. Bifidum
  • B. Longum
  • B. Breve

This is a very nice list, my dad is a particularly big fan of this probiotic because of L. Casei and L. Acidophilus, apparently those 2 strains do wonders for his diabetes and IBS.

In addition, the Physician’s Choice probiotic also contains a prebiotic blend, which is a great addition to ensure better probiotic absorption.

The fact that this probiotic is 100% organic, shelf stable and free of allergens is another BIG PLUS!

2. BioSchwartz Probiotic

The second probiotic my dad swears by is the BioSchwartz probiotic with 40 billion CFUs coming from 4 different probiotic strains:

  • Bifidobacterium lactis,
  • Lactobacillus acidophilus,
  • Lactobacillus plantarum,
  • Lactobacillus paracasei

My dad recommends to follow the directions and take 2 capsules per day, but instead of taking the second one in the afternoon, he recommends taking it in the evening, as it also calms him down and helps him sleep.

Another thing that’s great about this probiotic is that it’s 100% FREE of lactose, soy, wheat, gluten, nuts and sugar.

Even though it may take your gut a few days to get used to this probiotic it’s a great overall choice. We’ve also posted our full review of the BioSchwartz probiotic, you can read it by clicking here.

3. Culturelle Daily Probiotic

best probiotic for diabetics

My dad’s third choice is the Culturelle Daily Probiotic, the reason he really likes this one is because of 2 things, first off, it’s quite affordable coming in at around $0.6 per serving and second, the Culturelle Daily Probiotic comes with a prebiotic (200 mg Inulin) and as we know that really helps with digestion and probiotic absorption.

However, one of the things I don’t like about this probiotic is that it only contains a single probiotic strain Lactobacillus rhamnosus and while this strain is good and has a lot of research backing it, I prefer to see multiple strains in a probiotic.

The Culturelle Daily Probiotic contains 10 billion CFUs (healthy bacteria) per capsule, which is also a great and solid factor.

4. Wholesome Wellness Raw Probiotic

This is a strong one, the Raw Probiotic has a total CFU count of 100 billion coming from 34 different probiotic strains, which is a crazy number.

Just like with the previous probiotic, this one also has prebiotics and digestive enzymes included, which is another big plus, as it increases the beneficial effects of the healthy bacteria.

What my dad also really liked about this probiotic is that it’s shelf stable and doesn’t require refrigeration – in other words, the potency of the probiotic is guaranteed.

There’s also the 100% organic guarantee, which is something me and my dad also really liked. Overall, this is a great choice.

5. Schiff Digestive Advantage Probiotic

probiotic for diabetes

Schiff Vitamins is a well known and respected brand in the world of digestive supplements and their Digestive Advantage probiotic is a very good choice.

Even though the probiotic is relatively simple with only 2 main probiotic ingredients, it still is quite effective.

What I liked in particular about this probiotic is that it’s a lot milder, which is great for those who have a sensitive gut.

I also really liked that the probiotic is 100% FREE of added sugar, yeast, gluten, wheat and salt, but unfortunately it does contain soy.
